Despite the fact that I have dabbled in the strip club business for eight and a half years, I’m still amused by the pseudo-professionalism of the hiring process. I show up at 8:30 for my audition. The door girl looks at me and says, “Did Jim tell you to come back at 8? I thought he said 9.”
“He did, I’m early.” I replied
“Oooooh. You’ll have to wait over there then.” She said motioning to the faux greek columns.

Norma Jean
Yes. My Stage Name at Scores is Norma Jean. Could it be any worse? I knew I probably wouldn’t be able to use Avalon. Ever since the Avalon nightclubs in LA and NY started making headlines in US Weekly magazine, starterStrippers have been using the name more often. So, after rattling off a gazillion names, the housemom gave me the 17 page list of Taken Stage Names to cross-reference and a short list of Available Stage Names like Hilda, Ruth, and Emmaline. One of the girls in the dressing room told me I looked like Marilyn Monroe (but of course both Marilyn and Monroe were taken) so we went with Norma Jean. At least it was easy for me to recognize it when the DJ announced my stage cue. I still told people my name was Avalon.

Job Security
Monday, November 19th, 2007As part of my portfolio management class, I was assigned a very basic homework task. Anyone who has ever talked to a financial planner has been asked: what is your age, how many years until you retire, what is the value of your current portfolio, and how much do you need in there when you retire. For the average employee with a 401k, these questions are pretty straightforward. Not so much for a stripper.
When is it time for a stripper to retire? When I was in my mid-twenties I said thirty. When I turned thirty, I thought maybe thirty-five. Now that I have shifted my paradigm from JobStripper to SuperStripper, I really don’t know.
