Introducing your new blog writer and contributor:

Valayna Duvall!

Greetings!

I am Valayna D., the new blog and content contributor to the SGR/Dancerwealth family. I am honored and blessed to be working with one of the most prolific house dancers of all time, Miss Rebecca Avalon. Over the years, I have followed her career and teachings, learning and earning as a better entertainer, host, companion, and woman. I have danced my way to financial independence through discipline, maturity, and focus. I believe any dancer can achieve the same things if she sets her mind and heart to do it. I whole-hardheartedly believe YOU CAN be successful, YOU CAN make consistent money, YOU CAN live a quality happy life, and YOU CAN enter and exit the strip game in smooth transition.

A little about me—I began my career at the tender age of 19, starting with home bachelor parties (I was too young to work in topless cabarets at the time) in Southern California in 2003. I was able to build a small following of clients and eventually came to the strip clubs at 21. I was a full-time university student, a part-time girlfriend (or full-time babysitter if you want to look at it that way…God bless the ex), and became a moonlighting stripper. The money was pouring in. It was a tough road to juggle everything, but I eventually prospered, graduated in 2007, paid most of school debt, paid my bills, and covered my ex’s screw-ups before I left him. Then I thought I could put away the plastic shoes and start a new career in finance…or so I thought…

End of 2007 and through 2008 the recession hit in full force. It seems like every company, every business, every government agency froze their hiring. I remember putting out 1500 resumes and applications only to hear the silence of failure. My bills started to pile up and I refused to return to my dancer lifestyle. I packed up my things and left southern Cali to return home to my parents’ house in northern Cali.

Upon returning home I was able to get a job at a government office doing work that I hated, barely scraping a living enough to move out again on my own. I had no control of my time working 60 hrs a week, my female co-workers were intimidated by me, and I had a boss from hell. It was miserable. Just two years in, the government did a budget crunch and I was laid-off twice and eventually let go. I packed up my stuff and moved to what I knew was a recession-free, stripper haven: Dallas, TX. I danced full-time for a couple more years, and have become financially independent in 2012. I still dance from time to time for my high-end regulars or travel to events up to this day.

Moving was a blessing for me. I learned to accept that sometimes if you are gifted at something you have to harness that gift to get what you want in life. In my case, I have always been a talented dancer who made money. I learned to say “f#$% what everyone thinks. I love this, I’m good at this,” and took on dancing full-time and took it to a whole different level.

That’s so me. LMFAO

So here I am, sharing with you my experiences, my triumphs, my failures and mistakes. I will show what I know, trends I’m observing, and tips and methods for becoming an all-around awesome entertainer. I know through our courses and teachings you will have some of the arsenal needed to make the most out of this industry. Thank you for allowing me to share with you.

Let’s get this money!

There are wild swings in dancers’ earning potential. The pay at the end of a shift is extremely variable. It depends on the city, the club, the cut the club takes, the prices, the customer turnout, and how many people are really just there for the food (yikes!). The website Payscale.com has strippers taking in anywhere from $20,000-a-year to $122,000-a-year.

It is often stated that women turn to stripping because they are attracted to the kind of money they can earn. Results of the University of Leeds study indicate that the average take-home pay for a stripper is £232 ($358 USD) per night. A stripper can make as much as £48,000 or $74,000 USD annually, as much as the average computer programmer or university professor and more than a registered nurse earns in the United States per year. Strippers also spend far fewer hours on the job than many people with mainstream careers.

One in four strippers has a university degree. About 20% of the women interviewed are using the money they make as strippers to pay for their education while completing undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. Some university graduates, particularly those with arts degrees, have had trouble finding work in their chosen field and have turned to stripping as a way to make money as they continue their job search. Instead of taking a minimum wage job, such as bar work, to pay the bills, they can take home far more money as a stripper.

The next thing people should know about strippers is that the best ones are those who know how to sell themselves. Many assume that a stripper’s job consists entirely of getting naked on stage and the occasional lap dance, but researcher Dr. Teela Sanders says that the women she talked to claimed that “80% of the job is talking.” For a stripper, making money is about more than just exposing her body. To take home the maximum amount of cash, a stripper has to be a smooth talker too.

That’s where we come in…we have been helping dancers BE the 20% that makes all the money since 2003 and every year since.

It’s THAT time of year again!

The Cost of Business for a stripper can add up quickly. If you haven’t read my taxes blogpost from the early days of the blog, be sure to click that link about how to write off certain items that every stripper uses in order to do her job. I am not a Certified Public Accountant, and any specific questions should be directed towards one. I have, however, filed taxes as an entertainer for the duration of my career. Part of becoming a SuperStripper is being accountable for your income, saving and investing in assets that will allow you to retire gracefully from this business when you are ready.

If you have never filed taxes as a stripper before, the first thing you want to do is hire a Certified Public Accountant. We have references here at SGR and can direct you towards accountants who are familiar with the business write-offs associated with being an entertainer. You can also ask around at your club, most veteran dancers can at least point you in the right direction. What you want to avoid is a standard tax preparing office like HnR Block, Jackson Hewett, and/or prepackaged software programs like TurboTax. The likelihood of getting audited is much greater when using these resources.

The easiest way to keep track of your earnings and expenses is the SuperStripper Business Expense Log. In this manual the SuperStripper Tax System is explained and it walks you through each month with an Monthly overview, a weekly expense log, and end of month totals and review. There is also an annual report section at the back to present to your accountant at tax time.

State Rep. Bill Zedler (R-Arlington) said the idea is to try and prevent younger women from getting into the industry in the first place. He said it can serve as gateway to other problems, like drugs and prostitution.

“At church, my friend’s daughter was attracted to it by the big money of stripping … this isn’t a single case, it’s a pattern,” said Zedler.

In order to get a license, performers would need to have a relatively clean criminal record, meaning no drug or prostitution offenses. They’d also take a class on human trafficking.

A license would have to be displayed the entire time a dancer worked a shift.

At some local strip clubs, like Pin Ups in Fort Worth, the idea is drawing mixed reaction.

“They don’t start prostitution, it doesn’t lead to drugs,” said Mike Miller, the club’s general manager.

Miller and some dancers say they aren’t opposed to the trafficking classes, although they point out a lot of reputable clubs already bring in people to discuss those subjects.

Other Texas cities, like Houston, have local laws on the books which require adult dancers to get a license.

A spokesman for the Houston City Attorney’s office said they’ve had mixed results with their law, chiefly because many clubs fight being classified as an “adult establishment,” meaning their performers don’t have to get a license.

Zedler said he is willing to make changes to his proposal, especially if there are safety concerns with a dancer having to display her real name on the license.

Some details — including how much the license would cost and just how enforcement would work — are still being worked out.

“We would like to thank the community for their outpouring of support and prayers for Lauren. She has passed away but is an organ donor, and we hope this will enable her to save many lives and live on through others. We would like to express our gratitude to the staff at MetroHealth. They worked tirelessly to do all they could to save her life. We ask that the media respect our privacy during this difficult time. We know that she’s in God’s hands.”

Block had been listed in critical condition since January 2, when she suffered a fall at Christie’s Cabaret.

Officials said the Richmond Heights woman was attempting some sort of dance move when she went head first over the rail, falling 15 feet to the floor.

Early 911 calls about the accident led investigators to initially believe she may have been pushed, but they later concluded it was in fact a tragic accident.

Meanwhile, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration says they are trying to determine if they have jurisdiction to investigate the accident. A decision is expected in the next few weeks.

A group of exotic dancers won a nearly $13 million settlement in a lawsuit stemming from their claim that the chain of strip clubs for which they worked denied them wages and benefits.

The 14 dancers named in the class action lawsuit claimed that three clubs — Spearmint Rhino, Rouge and Blue Zebra — had policies that violated state and federal laws by misclassifying them as independent contractors.

The dancers named in the lawsuit worked at clubs in California, Nevada, Florida, Texas, Idaho and Kentucky. They say their annual gross revenues exceeded $500,000, but they were forced to split tips with managers, doormen, floor walkers, DJ’s and other employees who don’t usually receive tips.”

They did so “to maximize (the club’s) revenues and profits by disregarding applicable wage and hour laws,” according to the lawsuit filed in federal court in 2009.

The plaintiffs also alleged that the clubs threatened retaliation against any stripper who attempted to assert her rights to be recognized as an employee, the lawsuit said.

Lawyers for the strip clubs also declined to comment.

The attorney for the women, Hart Robinovitch, declined to comment, citing a court order barring him from commenting on the case.

The California plaintiffs will get 50 percent of the settlement amount, minus $2.5 million in attorneys fees and court costs.

Some 43 percent of the settlement will go to dancers in Nevada and 7 percent will go to dancers in Kentucky, Idaho, Texas, Nevada and Florida.

The court order also states that the strip clubs will no longer treat dancers as independent contractors and won’t be charged stage fees for the privilege of performing at a club.

Spearmint Rhino, which has headquarters in Norco, bills itself as a chain of “upscale gentlemen’s clubs” where guests are treated to a “unique ambience,” “superior service” and “first class entertainment.”

We all know that Strippers know how to party, but charity?

YES of course. It comes as no surprise to Strip and Grow Rich that this club is donating toys to Toys for Tots, a charity mainly run by the US Marines since 1947.

The GOOD news is that in the story they interview the Toys for Tots folks and they approve!

Don’t ever let people try to bring you down. If they do, it just means you are already above them!

If you want to sell more lapdances every shift that you work, you must learn the Four Buying Styles, or as we call them in DancerWealth…the Four Colors. The Colors system is based on the psychological behavioral mode that controls how we like to communicate and be communicated with, how we prefer to make purchasing decisions, and the speed with which we prefer to make them.

Buying Style #1 – The Decisive Red

The first buying style is called the Red. These buyers have a clear picture in their mind of what results they want. They are often seen as “Type-A” people, preferring to make buying decisions very quickly. They are more often interested in “winning” or “promoting their own agenda” so they like to buy when they feel they have “gotten their way,” so to speak. They are attentive to actions or communication that will speed up those results. Discussions about details and minutiae are distracting to these individuals. They prefer to discuss top-line, big-picture concepts when considering the value of any offering.

Selling to a Red (looking for results and efficiency):

Be practical and efficient (avoid theory)

Highlight opportunities for change and adventure

Avoid overly emotional discussions or opinion-based arguments

Accentuate independence and competition

Challenge their idea, perhaps, but not them personally

Stick to the big-picture, bottom-line business at hand

Be quick and to the point (do not waste their time)

Likes new, innovative things

Let them be in control

The odds of running into a Red buyer are 10-15% in the general public.

On connection and speed:
When Connecting with Reds don’t try to connect very much. This buying style prefers more professional relationships, may distrust you if you start asking all kinds of questions about their family and seek to become their new best friend. Coming on too personally is to be avoided with this style.
Regarding pace, when dealing with Reds you can move quickly and have a shorter sales cycle. They don’t require as much evidence; are prone to making rash decisions with less rational thought and more instinct, or gut intuition. Be aware that if you take too long in your sales cycle, you will hurt your chances of closing the sale. Reds don’t like to take too long to make a decision, and hate getting caught up in the details.

Buying Style #2 – The Interactive Blue

The second buying style is called the Interactive Blue. These buyers want to shape and mold events and enjoy “getting their way” when it comes to negotiations or buying something. Unlike the Red, however, Blue’s tend to go about this by working with or through people – much more collaboratively. They are interested in people and like to interact with others, understand others and to be understood by others. They are most receptive to making a buying decision when they feel a sense of connection with the person, are in a more social environment and have had the opportunity to express their emotions, thoughts, fears or excitement about the offering first. Like the Red this person is also particularly inattentive to details, preferring to stick to the big-picture and emotional benefits of the solution.

Selling to Blue (looking for interaction and an experience):

Avoid challenging them or personal conflict

Don’t aggressively close or push

Be enthusiastic and express emotions

Let them talk!

Highlight potential improved appearance, social standing, approval by others

Have fun!

Accentuate the “newness” factor

Name dropping is not a bad thing here (if done tastefully, of course)

Interactive buyers are Early Adopters = almost as brazen as the Red, but they really appreciate social proof as well. Be sure to point out how your solution allows them to “join others” who are leading the way, pushing the boundaries and blazing new trails. Sales key = Listen twice as much as you talk!

The odds of running into a Blue are 25-35% in the general public.

On connection and speed:
When connecting with Blues you can connect more. Actually, doing so will improve your chances of signing their business. Not doing so will hurt those chances. Regarding pace, when dealing with Blues you can move quickly and have a shorter sales cycle. They don’t require as much evidence; are prone to making rash decisions with less rational thought and more instinct, or gut intuition. Be aware that if you take too long in your sales cycle, you will hurt your chances of closing the sale. Also, Blues hate getting caught up in the details.

Buying Style #3 – The Yellow Stabilizer

The third buying style is called the Yellow Stabilizer. These buyers are more passive and introverted and interested in the how and why of a solution (i.e., the details and minutiae that the Red and Blue couldn’t care less about). Their primary interests are in maintaining stability within themselves and whatever situation they find themselves in. Messages that don’t address the specifics, or that champion radical change, are likely to alienate rather than resonate. They prefer to buy things that will increase the stability in their lives, provide more security, and are well known and well proven. They prefer to “take their time” more than any other dimension so any offering should give them plenty of time to decide.

Selling to Stabilizer buyer (looking for security and stability):

Avoid conflict (with them or trashing anyone else, even those not present)

Reassure and reduce risk as much as possible

Provide structure, step-by-step details and security

Give them ample time to decide (as in days or weeks in some extreme cases)

Accentuate your support and commitment long-term

Be sincere, modest and unassuming

Don’t get too personal too fast

Yellows make their decisions slowly. The Yellow buyer prefers to wait until they can be certain that the risk has been minimized, others have tried it first and they are joining the majority. Sales keys: slow and steady wins this race!

The odds of running into a Yellow buyer are 45-50% in the general public.

On connection and speed:

When connecting with Yellow buyers you can connect more. Actually, doing so will improve your chances of signing their business. Not doing so will hurt those chances. Regarding pace, Yellow buyers prefer to take it slow, not be rushed and get familiar with all the variables before making a decision. Push this buyer too fast and they will balk. You have to take it slowly and provide lots of security and certainty with this buyer.

Buying Style #4 – The Conscientious Green

The fourth and final buying style is called the Conscientious Green. These buyers are also more passive and introverted. Like the Yellow, they too take a much more detailed (the most) and accuracy-based approach to their buying habits. Their buying decisions are very much driven by questions of accuracy, detail, reliability, level of proof, etc. Without sufficient data to prove any statements made to a yellow you will fail to achieve their buy in. “What do I get?” is a favorite question for a green buyer. “Prove it” is the second most common one. They are very concerned with doing things accurately. They are receptive to offerings that provide proof that the solution works, proposals that are meticulously detailed and absent of ANY grammatical mistakes or typos.

Selling to the Green (looking for accuracy and information):

Provide high levels of high quality evidence and proof (data, facts, statistics, etc.)

Connect to solving problems

Make sure zero typos, grammatical mistakes or forgotten deliverables never happen

Ensure accuracy, reliability and dependability

Avoid pointing out any mistakes they may make

Be organized and logical

Be unemotional

Establish trust, through proof

The Green buyer is the Late Majority to Non-Adopter = if there is one style that may never adopt it is this one. They require the most proof, the most evidence and the most “selling to” before they have enough data to decide to buy. They require plenty of facts, data and proof. Sales Key = Data, Proof, Facts…with ZERO errors!

The odds of running into a Green buyer are 20-30% in the general public.

On connection and speed:
When Connecting with Green buyers don’t try to connect very much. This buying style prefers more professional relationships, may distrust you if you start asking all kinds of questions about their family and seek to become their new best friend. Coming on too personally is to be avoided with this style. Regarding pace, the Green buyer likes a slower pace. They don’t like to be rushed. They want plenty of time to consider the facts, analyze the options and study the data. Failing to provide this buyer with ample time to conduct their research or carefully weigh their options will push them away and ruin your chances of making a sale.

One of the secrets that top strippers know is how to make a man hang on her every word. It’s not as easy as just slapping on some lipgloss and wearing a seductive outfit. To achieve financial freedom and have a group of regulars you need presence, credibility, and passion.

Making men hang on your every word starts with these five skills:

1. Get comfortable.

Teetering around in dental floss on stilts is not the most comfortable thing on the planet. Isn’t that why most entertainers (mistake!) start their shift with a few drinks at the bar to loosen up? Trying to convince an educated man to purchase a $500 bottle of Moet that retails for $32.99 isn’t “comfortable” for most beginners.

You’ll do better if you can find a way to be as calm as possible, given the awkward situation. For many people, this means practicing so you feel you have the information down pat. For others, it’s figuring out what gets you in the zone — yoga, deep breathing, favorite music, laughter, warm-up conversations in the room, etc. I recommend this as most effective: using SGR techniques to get into the SuperStripper Zone before you walk into the club, and using theDancerWealth System to develop closing lines for each of the 4 personality types.

2. Expand your confidence.

When the stakes are high, no matter how much you try to get comfortable, some butterflies are going to remain. Instead of trying to eradicate the feeling or letting it spiral, accept the anxiousness. Acknowledge it, and realize that it has no bearing on you. At all. You can stick to your boundaries, nervous or not. Customers can sense your nervousness, and the unscrupulous ones will try to use it against you. If it’s really bad, they may sense your desperation and try to talk you into doing things outside your boundaries in exchange for an hour in the VIP room.

On a more positive note, being nervous isn’t all bad as long as you harness it correctly. After all, nervousness is excitement directed inward. Nerves can even help you emote and show energy, which Blue Customers pick up on and will spend money to be around you. The trick is to turn the energy outward and use it to your advantage.

3. Speak to the individuals, not the group.

We can take a lesson from the common public speaking advice: know your audience. In the typical strip club, there are different group dynamics- some groups are BLUE bachelor parties, some are RED out of town corporate types blowing off steam after a conference. The problem is that each member of the group has his own personality Color so it can be hard to tailor the sales pitch. A frequent mistake is to try to use the same line on every guy in the group. Just because one of the corporate types is a RED, another guy in the group is probably a YELLOW.

Learning to tailor your sale to the right Color is a critical skill. For mixed groups, my general advice is to speak to the REDs and BLUEs first. Let the your coworkers deal with the more difficult GREENS and YELLOWs.

4. Bring double the passion

If you want to be memorable, focus on bringing energy and passion to your club. Show how much you fun you are through stories, imagery, and conversation. People forget what you said but remember how you made them feel. Your presence plays a large role in that.

Plus, there’s power in a passionate purpose. We invest psychically in people we feel have the wherewithal to make change happen. If your passion shows, your wallet GROWS.

5. Ignite discussion, don’t replace it.

If your customer is talking, maintaining eye contact, and leaning towards you, then he will probably buy what you are selling. Most often, they don’t care how much you know (or how well you dance for them) until they know how much you CARE.

Ask an interesting open ended question, be flirty, and steer the conversation towards lapdances and VIP rooms when it’s time, not in the first 30 seconds. Ask for the sale, if he says no the first time wait and then repeat. This skill takes practice, so learn it any way you can, whether through DancerWealth training or observation of others.

Customers will feel far better about spending a lot of money in the VIP room your if they feel that you wanted and accepted their input. So ask open ended questions about what he likes to drink, what he likes about your club, why he came to the club that night, how much privacy he prefers to have when getting dances. (this is actually a pre-close question)

If you do it right, it will feel like it is his idea to go to VIP! And any idea that feels like it’s ours we’re more likely to buy into! And isn’t buy-in of our ideas the ultimate goal?

And yes, you can learn exactly how to sell dances with skills in our DancerWealth training course.
