The first question I ask is, “Why did he drive 20 miles to a strip club on the other side of town when Babes and Skin were right down the street?”

The shooting at the Great Alaskan Bush Company strip club on Sunday — one of two strip club shootings over the Christmas weekend — wasn’t the spontaneous work of an angry patron dissatisfied with his lap-dance. The suspect, 28-year-old Gavin Macfarlane, told police it was “part of a plan he had formulated in his mind.”

From the sound of things, dude’s a little out there.

According to court documents obtained by New Times, Macfarlane sat at the club as a patron prior to going berserk and shooting the place up.

Witnesses told police there was no incident that would have prompted Macfarlane to become enraged. Rather, it seems, he just went off the deep end.

After being taken into custody, Macfarlane told police he had planned the shooting. He says he was at the club for a while before he “reached a point where he made the decision to go out to the parking lot and obtain a weapon from his vehicle.”

He told police his plan was to shoot the first people with whom he came in contact — which he did.

When Macfarlane went back into the club he immediately shot the bouncer, Adam Troy Cooley, 34, and a patron, 20-year-old Antonio Garcia, who were standing near the door. Both Cooley and Garcia died as a result of the injuries caused by Macfarlane.

Two other patrons were also shot, although, they survived the attack.

Macfarlane entered the club and shot at another unidentified woman, but missed. He then tried to shoot another male patron but was out of bullets — so he hit the man in the head with the gun before being subdued by staff members.

Macfarlane told cops that if he hadn’t run out of ammo he would have continued to shoot people.

He’s been booked on two counts of first-degree murder, three counts of attempted murder, and one count of assault with a deadly weapon. He’s being held on a $2 million bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for January 3.

A California diamond merchant came to Las Vegas last year with a fortune in his pants.

He lost it at the Spearmint Rhino “gentleman’s club,” setting off a multi-million dollar theft investigation that has a former NFL football player and his schoolteacher wife facing possible prison terms.

The Las Vegas diamond caper began on June 2, 2009 when high-end jewelry dealer Eli Abdalnour blew into town carrying $10 million in rare stones in “a small black zip-up jewelry bag … in the front of his pants,” according to court documents.

After just a half-hour at the famed strip club he left $10 million lighter. Abdalnour later told police he “did not know how the pouch was removed from his waistband, and stated that he knew he last had it while seated at the Spearmint Rhino.”

An international investigation by Las Vegas police netted three arrests, and on Friday a Clark County grand jury handed down indictments against former club bouncer Matt Keneley, 36, and his wife, Antoinette Keneley, 33. Each face three charges, including felony possession of stolen property and conspiracy to possess stolen property, a gross misdemeanor. If convicted, they each face one to 10 years in prison.

Abdalnour did not respond to calls for comment Friday, but court papers say he was in Las Vegas for the 2009 JCK Jewelry Show at the Sands Convention Center when he decided to visit the strip club. After just 30 minutes there, he was called away to a business meeting .

Soon after, Abdalnour realized the black pouch was gone and he raced back to the club, where a manager returned the pouch, which had been found by Matt Keneley. Abdalnour gave the manager $3,200 to show his appreciation.

But back at his hotel, Abdalnour realized two diamond rings were missing. One had a 3.01 karat diamond with a purplish-pink hue and two yellowish diamonds on the side, with a retail value of $2 million. The other had a 10.05 karat princess-cut diamond, with two 1.6 karat baguettes diamonds and multiple diamonds on the shank. It was worth $960,000.

Back again at the club, Abdalnour told the manager he would pay $10,000 for the return of the rings, and wouldn’t contact authorities. He told the manager the diamonds were rare and would be hard to move on the open market. He went to police when the rings weren’t returned.

A break in the case came July 30, 2009, when Abdalnour learned that a diamond with a purplish-pink hue had turned up in a New York City store. Three gemologists confirmed it was his.

Las Vegas police detectives traced the ring to Harry Chandi, a jewelry dealer in the Cayman Islands. Chandi, contacted in London, England, told investigators he bought the $2 million stone for $7,000 and two loose diamonds. He picked the Keneleys out of a photo lineup.

Investigators next learned the Keneleys sold the two loose diamonds from Chandi in Los Angeles for $18,000, and peddled the remaining diamonds from Abdalnour’s pouch for $18,000 at a pawn shop in Dana Point, Calif.

Before going to the Caymans, the couple had asked a family friend who worked in the jewelry business, Richard Cullinan, how to sell diamonds they hoped would fetch $1.5 million. Cullinan told them moving “hot” stones would be hard, and helped sell the 10.05 karat diamond for $55,000 to the Gold Rush jewelry store, in the 8100 block of Sahara Avenue.

All told, the rocks netted just $98,000, 3.3 percent of their retail value. The Keneleys gave Cullinan $5,000, paid the note on their GMC Yukon, covered day-to-day expenses and financed the Caymans trip.

Police later recovered about $14,000 in cash from a safe deposit box. Authorities have yet to find the 10.05 karat princess cut diamond, which the Gold Rush said was sold to an unknown party in California.

After they were arrested on Aug. 27, 2009, the Keneleys confessed and wrote letters of apology to Abdalnour, according to court documents.

Cullinan in February pleaded guilty to attempted possession of stolen property, a gross misdemeanor. He was sentenced in August by Judge Valorie Vega to three years probation.

Matt Keneley is free on $50,000 bond. A two-time Academic All-American and starting lineman at the University of Southern California, he was drafted by the New York Giants in 1997 but played only seven NFL games for the San Francisco 49ers in 1999. In 1998 he played for the San Jose Sabercats of the Arena Football League, and in 2001 played for the upstart XFL football league’s Los Angeles Xtreme. His attorney, Tom Pitaro, could not be reached for comment Friday.

Antoinette Keneley was released on her own recognizance. She is listed as a third-grade teacher at John C. Bass Elementary School. A Clark County School District spokesman confirmed she is still employed by the district. Her attorney, Greg Knapp, declined to comment.

Employees of the Spearmint Rhino said Friday they were not authorized to comment.

The couple will be arraigned before District Court Judge James Bixler on Oct. 27.

You know the old stereotypes about strip clubs. They’re dark. They’re seedy. They’re fun. But when push comes to shove, they’re filled with awkwardness and regret. Hold up, though, fans of naked women: Those sentiments don’t apply to The Lodge, except for the fun part. Designed to look like a ski or hunting lodge, the place isn’t your run-of-the-mill black-room-with-silver-poles establishment. No, this one has wood furnishing everywhere, and it’s complemented by stone and brick adornments. It’s tough not to be taken aback by it, actually, even if that’s not what you came to see. Speaking of what you came to see, though: The ladies? Well, they’re pretty nice, too. The Lodge, vehement in referring to itself as a “gentlemen’s club” as opposed to a strip club, holds itself to a ridiculously high standard. The classy vibe of the place just trickles down throughout the entire establishment – and it seems to apply to the ladies, who walk around the place in gowns, rather than G-strings. It’s just, well, tasteful, that’s all. Tasty, too, by the way: The menu’s legit. We recommend the club sandwich.

The latest data, compiled by the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research, showed 1600 people were charged with committing a range of 27 offences in the state’s “places of worship” in 2008.

Surprisingly, the figures showed only 282 people were charged in premises classified as adult entertainment over the same offences.

Bureau director Don Wedderburn said the data showed people were just as likely to be assaulted or robbed in the sanctity of a church as they were on the streets.

“Most people would think of churches and synagogues as sanctuaries in society,” he said.

“But maybe that’s naive, because the statistics show they are likely to rob, assault or steal from people there like anywhere else. The figures are genuinely surprising.”

A breakdown of the figures showed that 85 people were assaulted in places of worship, compared to 66 at an adult entertainment premises.

According to the report, places of worship include churches, synagogues, monasteries, mosques, convents, cathedrals and chapels.

Premises listed under adult entertainment included strip clubs, sex shops, brothels, massage parlours, homosexual clubs, gaming houses as well as gambling clubs.

Places of worship were also ahead on sexual offences (16), theft from motor vehicles (33), resisting arrest (seven) and liquor offences (10).

Harassment and threatening behaviour at places of worship (30) was more than double that of adult entertainment (13).

Two people were charged with possessing or using marijuanain places of worship. The figure was a 90 per cent decrease on the previous year, when 20 people were charged with the offence.

Only one person was charged with the offence at an adult entertainment premises in 2008.

Strip clubs — good for men? VCG Holdings, an adult entertainment giant with 19 clubs in 10 states thinks so. Recently, they commissioned Empire Research to conduct a study about the impact strip clubs have on men’s health.

“Besides the obvious — beautiful women — we wanted to know what attracted men to adult clubs.” Michael Ocello, president of the VCG Holdings, told The Riverfront Times. “We always knew that our clubs made men feel good, but we didn’t expect the researchers to come back with medical findings that our clubs can also be healthy for you.”

We couldn’t find the study to analyze the sample size and methodology, and as a result, find the whole thing somewhat dubious, but let’s hear them out.

So according to the study, frequenting a strip club can lower cortisol, also known as the stress hormone. The study also suggested a boost in oxitocyn (the “love hormone”) levels and testosterone.

“As a society, 54 percent of us feel overwhelmed with work,” said Ocello. “We only have 16 hours or so of leisure time a week and more and more of that is interacting with people via Facebook or the Internet. We’re social creatures. We need human touch, human contact. They’ve done saliva tests that show that men’s testosterone increases when they’re surrounded by beautiful women. Why is that? Because there’s no fear of rejection. The women are going to talk to you. They’re going to flirt with you. That’s how it works. The question is: would you rather go to the gym and do push ups to increase testosterone, or spend her time here surrounded by beautiful women?”

If you have the cash, by all means. But take up too much of the girls’ time when you only have enough money for one or two lapdances and watch the cortisol go through the roof. You’ve been warned.

StripAndGrowRich.com does NOT encourage or support underage Strippers. This is a job for mature ladies who can handle the emotions that will undoubtedly arise on the floor.

How in the world does this happen? This makes a good case for clubs to do a better job verifying dancers’ credentials. There are major dollars and legal issues at stake here.

Club owners and managers: Trust but VERIFY. There’s something in the food that makes 14 year-olds LOOK mature, but they just have the body, not the mind.

This is just another one of the reasons it’s time for clubs to start training the entertainers. We also teach health code information as well as legal issues.

If you’re a club owner or manager, be watching www.stripandgrowrich.com for the next couple of weeks for more valuable information we can help you teach your staff.

If you’re a dancer or a patron…what do you think about this situation that happened in Detroit?? (and Dallas a few months ago, apparently)

Obviously, everyone will say the number one thing a customer can do is spend money. More specifically though, I think the key is in how a customer spends money. IMO, it should be both generously AND frequently.

Taking the focus off dancers for a brief moment, if you want to improve your club experience I think it’s vitally important to tip the wait staff generously. Not only will they serve you faster and be more attentive to your needs, they will be much friendlier and project a positive vibe which is especially beneficial when a dancer joins you at your table. A dancer can obtain some hints about what kind of customer you could potentially be from the interaction between you and the waitress. If you’ve established a level of comfort with your waitress that allows her to laugh and joke with you, odds are you are a pretty good customer to her. In effect, you’ve been pre-screened by the waitress. If you tip the waitress generously, odds are you’ll be generous to the dancer. If the waitress asks if you’d like to buy the dancer a drink and you readily accept or if you take the initiative and offer to buy a drink for the dancer on your own, odds are you’ll be willing to spend more money on the dancer. I strongly believe it’s important for customers to have ATF waitresses and to do their best to ensure they sit in their sections to reap the benefits.

If you’re sitting close to the stage, stage tipping should be a must by rule. You’re receiving entertainment value from the stage show so it’s only fair the dancer performing receives compensation for it. When stage tipping, tips should be offered freely and without strings. There’s no need to make a dancer “work for it” as she’s already on stage working for you.

Buy dances! If you’ve allowed a dancer to sit with you for a while, you’d better be prepared to at least tip for her time if you’re not going to buy dances. When it comes to buying dances, I have a self imposed rule of a two dance minimum per dancer. I believe single dance buyers are viewed as an annoyance by most dancers and so it’s extremely rare that I’ll stop after one dance. When I have, it’s only because she’s caused me some sort of unbearable extreme discomfort. Of course some guys may think I’m crazy for spending any additional money on a dance I’m not really into but I believe it still positively contributes to my club experience. Firstly, girls talk and I don’t want to be identified as a one-and-done customer who then gets passed over by other dancers who’s company I would have otherwise enjoyed. Or even if they don’t talk, dancers are pretty observant and can see your spending habits. On the other hand, if you make frequent trips to the private dance area for extended periods of time, dancers will see that too and generally are more enthusiastic when approaching. I go into the club expecting to spend money anyway and burning the cost of a dance two or three times over the course of a night is something I’m prepared to do. I have a lot more fun when I don’t have to constantly worry about stretching my dollars.

Leave the club when you’ve exhausted your strip club budget. It goes back to the first point I made about not wasting the dancers’ time and prevents you from being labeled a time waster.

Always tip for dances as generously as one can afford. And when it comes to buying a block of dances (or time) where I’m getting a volume discount on dances, my personal rule is to always pay the equivalent of full price dances as a bare minimum. For example, if I’m getting a two-for-one dance, I’ll pay her for the two dances. Or if I’m paying $300 for an hour (when single dances are $20/ea for approx 3 mins each), I’d give her $500 ($400 worth of full price dances plus an extra $100 tip which works out to only 20% if you think about it in those terms).

I will never negotiate the price of a dance. I will never ask a dancer for change. I will never get so many dances from a girl that I can no longer afford to provide a good tip. I will never negotiate for contact. I will never request extras. I will never tell a dancer how to do her job. I will never request OTC. I will never ask for personal details. I will never offer backhanded compliments. I will never say anything bad about another dancer to her. I will never complain to her about her dances. I will never complain about the club or staff to her. I will never play mind games. I will never eat stage side (I’ve never understood this behavior as I think it’s plain rude). I will never monopolize a dancer’s time without spending money.

I will be open to her approach. I will be comfortable with her comfort level. If all she’s comfortable offering is an airdance, I will be content with that. I will let her take the lead. I will be as honest and modest as possible. I will respect her boundaries. I will try to keep the mood light and positive. I will pay attention to her as she speaks. I will always be polite. I will always thank her for her time.

I will take a shower and wash my hair before going to the club. I will wear clothes that are freshly washed. Unless I’ve intentionally grown out facial hair, I will ensure I’m clean shaven. I will brush my teeth prior to going to the club and will carry some sort of breath freshening aids with me (e.g., mints, gum, breath strips, etc.). I will avoid food and beverages the day of a strip club visit that would contribute to bad breath (e.g., garlic, beer, etc.). With regards to cologne, I choose not to wear any and find it unnecessary particularly after just showering.

Where lap dance clubs are concerned, I’ll avoid wearing belts and button down shirts or shirts with zippers. While they may look good, I find the buttons/zippers can catch on a dancers clothes and are a source of discomfort for many dancers. On the other hand, I’ve received many compliments/thanks for wearing soft and smooth clothes. Other positive reinforcement I’ve received is compliments for smooth, soft skin (face, neck, arms, hands). Sorry to get all metro but moisturizing will always be appreciated. I also ensure my nails are maintained. Oh, and lip balm is a good idea too (no, not for kissing) as the sight of chapped lips is unsightly. Basically, just look presentable and ensure you’re not the source of any unpleasant odors (which includes overpowering cologne).

Ladies: What do you think?? Would this be your ideal client?

Gentlemen: Can we do this? Is this realistic and doable?
