As I was sashaying across the floor the other night at The Lodge in Dallas, a well dressed gentleman reached out and touched my hand to get my attention, “How tall ARE you?” he asked.
I get that a lot. Let me clarify…I get that A LOT!!
“With the shoes or without?” I asked as I slid into his lap. No conversation starter needed here! “Five eleven without the shoes, Six two with them.”
“Let me see those!” He said as I raised a toned tanned thigh high in the air to showcase them um…shoes (yeah the shoes.) “Why do you wear those, you don’t need them!”
“It’s part of the uniform,” I explained…”if you see a girl walking around NOT wearing stripper shoes you’ll probably think Hey she can’t even walk in the shoes, I’ll bet she can’t give me a good dance!”
Although that is my typical response to the shoe question, those 6 inch platforms DO have higher purpose. The heels create a longer, leaner line on the leg and lift the buttocks ever so slightly.
Stripper Shoes can range from mildly tacky to obscenely ridiculous. I opt for the mildly tacky clear plastic 6 inch stilettos. There was a time when I donned a pair of clunky chunky heeled five inch black sparkly shoes from Hot Topic, and another time in my career that I towered over the predominantly Asian clientele in San Francisco because I wore a pair bright red pleather 7 inch platforms with my vinyl naughty nurse costume.
So here is a rundown of the basic choices of Stripper Shoes:
5 1/2-6 1/2 inch Stilettos are the most common shoe you will see in the strip club. Although they still take some practice, they are easier to learn how to walk in than taller platforms. These are the better choice if you work at an upscale club because they aren’t too clunky. Clear and Black will match most of your outfits, and come both with and without ankle straps. I prefer the no ankle straps, but if you are brand new to dancing you may want to choose a pair with a strap. Think about the type of clientele you are trying to attract: a feminine foot will attract the most and turn off the least.
7- 81/2 inch stilettos are becoming more and more popular with younger dancers and at more urban clubs. These extreme styles are not meant for beginners! The larger the platform is at the bottom, the more balance is required to stay upright. It is very easy to twist an ankle in this style of shoes, especially if you work at a club with uneven flooring. If you happen to step on a bottle cap, or if the rug has a dip in it, you are more likely to end up face down in these towering shoes. Although some patrons like the crazy styles, it may turn off more conservative REDs.
Thigh High Boots are a staple for the fetish clientele. PVC vinyl boots are also great for beginners who are learning pole tricks because they stick to the pole. When I first started dancing I always wore a pair of white lace up 5 inch boots with my Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader costume. I performed lots of pole tricks at the time and the sticky vinyl allowed me to literally just “walk” right up the pole. Kudos to the polestars that perform barefoot!

Hi,thanks for the article. Infos are pretty useful and saves me huge amount of time which I have spend on something else instead of googling
Thank you
I actually find it easier to walk in the taller shoes provided they have an ankle strap. I’m so used to my 8 inch heels now, that I’ve fallen over more than once wearing my shorter platforms. If girls want to go tall, they should definitely start tall.
