I know “Strippers & Technology” seems like an oxymoron, right? Have a laugh at it, but the truth is that technology & the internet are making the work of many strippers much easier! While it is true that with technology we are competing with new forms of entertainment (xobile bringing porn to your iPhone/Blackberry/etc, streaming web porn, fleshlight with practically interactive video, webcam girls) nothing will ever fully replace in person entertainment & touch from another human being. The ability to create a connection to the psyche in addition to live human touch (particularly that of a loving nature) is a very strong form of entertainment for many people, & one that exotic dancers provide almost everyday that they work.
So what is all of this about technology? While many companies are using technology to sell their product(s), erotic dancers are using technology to market themselves. This spans from old technology to the newest of technologies.
I carry business cards with me & hand them out a lot. Some people think that its odd for a dancer to have a business card, but I assure you that it is not. If I’m dancing at a club I usually try to get some free pass cards as well. Each time that I am out & about I try to hand out business cards (includes my stage name, club & work days/hours), which happens the most often at restaurants & nightclubs. While I’m out eating I try to pay attention to if I end up with a waiter that attempts to flirt with me. If he does then I leave a business card or a free pass to the club with my name on it along with the cash for the meal. If I go out to a nightclub & someone says a guy across the room wants to meet me I say “sure”, & when I’m introduced to him I make a point of handing him my card & encouraging him to come see me in the club. Handing out business cards works in a variety of situations. I also often do this with events like concerts. If you are a dancer getting out & meeting people plays in your favor!
Over the past few years I’ve started using social networking sites. It began with a small online stripper & customer community that merged with another website where I am now very active. Years later I joined Myspace. From there I joined online modeling & photographer communities. I tried a few various others that popped up here & there such as Fubar, but didn’t find them to be as good for networking because they were based too much on one thing. For example Fubar markets themselves as an online bar where people buy one another virtual drinks. People on Fubar don’t connect as quickly & I never became very active on the site. Next I joined Facebook, because many of my friends either didn’t have Myspace or closed their accounts to move to Facebook. Facebook is now considered to be the number one social networking site with more than 400,000,000 members. Next I joined Twitter, which has been extremely popular for sending out short messages to people. Many of my friends now use Twitter to tell customers when & where they are going into work.
Another popular avenue that once was dying out & seems to have re-gained popularity is phone chat. Years ago the phone sex lines were very popular & many people relied on them for a source of income. Many women who once relied on phone sex lines are now using web cam but have found a unique niche in flirting with customers via third party phone numbers. For example, another feature dancer whom I’m acquainted with recently was driving between states. Rather than just blast the radio in her car to keep herself awake she made herself available to call by fans & customers. The customers dialed a number that then forwarded the calls to her cell phone, & she made money off of it! While the phone sex lines are no longer $1.99 a minute, this particular feature was charging between $6 to $9.99 per minute. Granted, a lot of people may not pay that so it probably won’t keep her busy for 40 hours a week, but chances are that she doesn’t want to be that busy… & getting paid to talk to customers & fans certainly beats driving through states with just the radio on while not getting paid!
Now there is a new take on the old idea of online marketing. While many striptease dancers keep blogs, driving traffic to them can become difficult. People often search for other blogs to respond to & then list their website or blog in the information field or comments section, but driving traffic is becoming even easier. When I post a blog I do a few things. First, I create a “teaser” from my blog, a short snippet of the beginning of the blog with a hyperlink to bring readers back to the blog on my website. I post this on the social networking sites, a technique I learned from a good friend. Second, I am starting to use Google Alerts. The Google Alerts system in combination with Google Reader allows you have an assistant that continuously pings the internet looking for certain terms that you are interested in such as “stripclub” or “cabaret”. Whenever something shows up on the internet I can look at it & decide if it’s relevant to my website. If it is I can leave a comment with a link back to my site, rather than searching for new individual posts everyday. This allows me to gather more readers, customers, & fans who might be interested in meeting me at the club when I perform in their area.
If you are an adult nightclub entertainer, I encourage you to start looking at how technology can work for you rather than against you. There are lots of options available to you, and DancerWealth 2.0 has step by step instructions on how to set up and profit from them.
