I had a really interesting conversation with one of my SuperStripper Bootcamp participants this past week. During her career, she noticed how some exotic dancers will chose an outfit based on how trendy it is, not by how well it flatters her body. She had even gone to the great lengths of hiring an image consultant to pick out the best colors and costume styles to flatter her body and her complexion. Brilliant!
This week’s blog series is going to explore the different body shapes, and the most flattering costumes.
For those of you who are DancerWealth Members, I touch on this in the DancerFit video series:
No matter how much you diet, excercise, and/or starve yourself, every woman has a particular bodyshape that she was born with. You can’t change it without surgery, and even then you don’t get rid of your “problem” areas you just draw attention away from it!
Most body shapes fall into five basic profiles:

The Triangle, The Rectangle, The Hourglass, The Apple
To determine which category you fall into, stand in front of a full-length mirror (wearing undergarments or a leotard) and take an objective look at your proportions. Focus your attention on the differences or similarities in the size of your shoulders, bust, waist and hips. Do you have wide hips and a small upper body? Are your shoulders broad in comparison to your hips? Do you have little or no waist definition? Determine whether or not your body proportions are narrow, average or wide. If you find this difficult, ask a friend to provide an objective assessment.
I am somewhere between an inverted triangle (my shoulders have always been wider than my hips) and an apple (I store fat in my middle) What are you?
I think I am an hourglass. I am currently about 6 feet tall with the measurements of 36 C 26 40 and an inseam of 33. I have a very well defined waist and my hips are my largest part and I tend to store fat ( when I gain) in my lower body around my thighs and butt. I am told this is a great shape to be in. I look really good in V necks and corsets. Is there a quiz we can take to determine our body shape??
