I’ve become a bad blogger with a one post a week habit. I’m sitting at the Birmingham airport with two hours to kill, and vow to return to my normal habits.
This has been a great trip. I LOVED Dallas. In my opinion, it’s a great city to live and dance. For traveling entertainers, it’s not quite as friendly as Vegas. The overhead expenses for travel and lodging are significantly higher than Las Vegas, while the dance pricing is lower. The VIP rooms at Spearmint Rhino have price points of $25 per dance and $300 per hour. The city of Dallas has a relatively new fingerprinting law that discourages club hopping and out of towners like myself. For each club, you have to pay $50 to have your fingerprints and TX background check done. If you are out of state, you have to pay another $50 to have a the same information run in your home state. Needless to say, it kept me from trying out several different clubs while I was here.
Lia and I visited two clubs in Birmingham on Saturday night: The Furnace and Sammy’s. The Furnace is new and relatively close to the airport. It had a great layout, nice big dressing room, but not much business. Sammy’s seemed to be more established, despite the run down decor, rusty lockers and cluttered dressing room. I stayed at a very hospitable woman’s home. She is a member of Starlight and even equipped my room with a fridge and snacks! It was such a nice treat after being in bland hotel rooms.
The EDMBA was great. No complications, just a few no shows from girls who had already paid the tuition. I’m not too surprised, but it makes me wonder. Entertainers complain that there’s no organization out there to lobby for their rights, but when a non-profit does organize something educational for them, they don’t show up! On the flip side, we made a lot of progress with the girls that made the commitment and showed up!
Southwest still hasn’t found my bag that it lost two weeks ago. I’ve been slowly replacing items, but I’m going to miss all my favorite stuff. Since I HATE shopping, the process is torturous. And I the thought of spending my profits to buy copies of stuff I already had just irks me….
I’ll be in Phoenix for the next three weeks. I’m missing the Mining, BikeExpo, and SalesExpos in Vegas, but I’m sure you girls will bank! Can’t wait to get back to the gym and my normal 2 hour workouts
