Money is a Drug

The other day I was talking to a friend who unexpectedly got laid off from his six figure job when his high tech company decided to poof close it’s doors.  I congratulated him because he could now break away from the corporate world he hated and start building his dreams.

One thing I’ve noticed (not just in the strip club, but in life) is that people are happy when they have money…and upset or moody when they don’t have it.  Just like a heroine addict gets high when they inject the drug, they also get moody and violent when they don’t have it.

Money has addictive power also.  One you get used to receiving it, that addiction keeps you attached to the way you receive it.  If you receive money as an employee, then you tend to get accustomed to a steady paycheck. As self-employed entertainers, we get used to generating money via sales and commissions.  If you get used to government handouts, that too  is a hard pattern to break.

Is your prior conditioning to the way you earn money letting the multitude of business opportunities slip right through your fingers?  If you have fallen into debt and/or are barely subsisting through this recession it may be time to break your addiction to the means in which you make money.

If you aren’t familiar with Robert Kiyosaki’s Cashflow Quadrant, I suggest you get acquainted with the four methods of making money.
