I love my Imaginary Job

Back to my daily grind: wake up, check market open, work out, run errands, watch market close, do housewife-ly stuff, go to Christie’s.  I love my life!

I had a great comment on yesterday’s blog, “What is your real job?”  I define a real job as one that reports my income to the IRS via a W-2.  A real job also requires me to show up and perform my work duties at a scheduled time.  At a real job you get in trouble if you don’t show up at your scheduled time and/or you have to find a substitute.  Hence, my real job is a fitness instructor.  I teach yoga, pilates, spin, turbokick, lift, and water aerobics for the largest international gym chain in the world.  I dread working out alone and for free, so I kill two birds with one stone.  Nevertheless, my real job is only 8 hours a week.

My imaginary job is the one where countless strangers hand me Jacksons, Grants, and Franklins in exchange for attention and entertainment conveniently packaged in 3 minute 15 second blocks.  It is imaginary because I do not receive a W-2 or 1099 from my customers.  It is imaginary because I do not have to show up on time or at all.  If I feel sick or decide last minute that I’m not going to work, I don’t have to call my imaginary job and tell them.  I just don’t show up. My imaginary job doesn’t issue me a paycheck.  Instead I walk out with Jacksons, Grants, and Frankins tucked in my wallet every night.

Please, don’t tell the grocery store, the gas station, the post office, the mechanic, the mall, the housekeeper, the bank, or any of the several restaurants I frequent each week that my cash is imaginary.  They don’t seem to mind taking cash from my imaginary job in exchange for goods and services.

This Saturday Night is Christie’s Annual Wild West Night!  All proceeds benefit the Wild Horse Ranch Rescue, a non profit organization that rescues horses in need.  These pictures are from last year’s event.  Yes, I’m breaking out the Dallas outfit one more time this year!
