Strippers, Women, and Body Image

Britney Spears is to be replaced by a body double for a nude magazine shoot as she is too “out of shape.”

The 26-year-old ‘Gimme More’ singer is baring all in a recreation of an iconic Marilyn Monroe photograph, but Blender magazine reportedly plan to swap her body with a more “in shape” model.

An advert placed in the magazine reads, “We are casting for a Britney Spears body double. You must have shoulder to medium length blonde hair. This person must also be in shape! 5’2″ to 5’5.” This will be a take off of a Bert Stern photograph of Marilyn Monroe in bed, from the last shoot before her death. Your face will not be shown in the final photograph/cover.”

The model must be aged 18 to 25 and will be paid $500 to pose either on December 14 or the 17.

Maybe….just maybe….they should find a different celebrity to star in this photoshoot.  Isn’t it just a bit too much trouble if they’re just going to photoshop her head onto someone else’s body?  To that extent, if they’re going to be photshopping….do they even need to hire someone for a new shoot?  Can’t they just find a photo, superimpose clothing and Brit’s face?

Or…if it absolutely must be Britney Spears….why does she have to have a model perfect body?  If American pop culture is so obsessed with her, does it matter if she is a size 2 or size 10?  Marilyn Monroe was not exactly tight and/or toned, and was roughly the equivalent of today’s size 12.

I came across another interesting article. Smart Girls in a Sexy World.  I am officially a FCP (Female Chauvinist Pig) and proud of it!

“Explaining the FCP mind-set, Levy writes, “The FCP asks: Why throw your boyfriend’s Playboy in a … trash can when you could be partying at the Mansion? Why worry about disgusting or degrading when you could be giving — or getting — a lap dance yourself? Why try to beat them when you can join them?” According to Levy, the more women buy into pop culture’s objectification of them, the more they morph into living, breathing equivalents of a blow-up doll.”

Yes, I have a subscription to Playboy.  Yes, I give and get lapdances.  Yes, I look more like a Barbie Doll now than I did 10 years ago.  But who’s to say this is “bad.”  My breast implants and smaller dress size haven’t changed who I am on the inside.
