SuperStripper Burn Out

The key to maintaining SuperStripper status is to recognize the early signs of burn out.  Then nip it in the bud before it snowballs into something worse.  That’s what I did last night.

After my busy week of flying to Las Vegas on Tuesday, working two double shifts back to back, flying home on Thursday, working Friday night…I hit a wall yesterday.  All the warning signs were there, I took an afternoon nap in the sun….but woke up cranky and groggier than I was before I took the nap.  I showed up at my tanning salon at 6:55 just as they were locking the door (even though they don’t officially close until 7 pm.)

Miraculously, as I was sitting at the light at the 32nd St exit ramp off the 202, my phone rang.  It was hubby, Vinnie Vigglioti, “Did I catch you in time?”  he asks.  “Please come home and hang out with me tonite!”

The light turned green and I hung a U-turn and got right back on the 202 and went home.  I had to laugh.  I live 60 miles round-trip from the club.  The commute is the hardest part for me.  Usually, once I walk in the club, hear the music, and put on my stilettos I’m ready to rock ‘n roll. Last night I recognized it was different.  I wasn’t feeling like a SuperStripper.  Maybe I’m getting old, but I can’t hop right off a plane and immediately revert back into my normal routine anymore.  It seemed like my “day off” on Thursday didn’t really “count” because once I got home I had to unpack, do laundry, and put the house back in order after being gone for 2 days.

So I went home, made hamburgers and watched Borat and Night at the Museum on HBO.  I was in bed at 11:30.  I haven’t had 9 hours of sleep in a long time.  I felt so refreshed when I woke up this morning and headed to the gym for Spin and Yoga class.

Yoga is the main method I use to combat burn out.  Cardio and weight training are necessary to keep the body in shape, but yoga keeps the mind in shape.  Not only does it stretch the muscles and align the joints to prevent physical injury, it helps to release cortisol in the brain.  There are so many stressed out people walking around with majorly high cortisol levels.  I could tell my cortisol level was high last night because I had that cranky, achy “AGGGHHHH!!!!” feeling.  After yoga this morning….its gone.  I feel like I’m totally on top of my game again.

So, my game plan for this week:  Work Tues, Wed, Fri, Sat, and Sun at Christies.  Nascar is in town.  Last year I worked Thurs-Sun and was blatently reminded just why I can’t work 4 shifts in a row (again burn out by Day 4)  So I have a massage scheduled with Sergi on Thursday to prepare myself for a CRAZY weekend.  Last year I had this red neck guy flag me down for a dance, take his false teeth out, and put them on the table.  This year RickyBobby will be in on Friday and probably Sat night too.  RickyBobby is hilarious, he usually signs out 4 or 5 girls just for himself.

I love November in Arizona.  It’s still bikini season!  I’m going to go sit by the pool and catch some rays.
