The absolute best thing I ever did for my stripping career was fork out 300 bucks for Stripper School. I was one of Naked Assets first students. On the grand scheme of tuition costs, I have personally experienced a better return on that $300 than I did for $130K for two pieces of paper that hang on my wall.
Back in January 2004 I was your average JobStripper. I made decent money, but I was, by no means, a top earner in my club. I thought it was because I wasn’t skinny enough, or because I didn’t have a boob job, or because I wasn’t “in” with the VIP Hostesses. Some nights I wondered why none of the guys in the club “liked” me enough to sign me out all night.
It wasn’t any of those things. It was because I wasn’t a very good salesperson. Anyone who has to convince someone else to do something is in sales. It doesn’t matter if they are a teacher, a minister, a financial planner, or a parent trying to get a 4 year old to bed early…you are in sales. You may not get a monetary commission for successfully selling that 4 year old into bed…but that is one of the toughest sales out there.
Phoenix clubs have a “wanna dance?” atmosphere. For girls with that are shy, high, or just have zero personality this is a good thing; on busy nights they can just walk round and round the room repeating those same two words all night long and walk out with decent money. Key word is decent. Not fantastic, not mind blowing…but decent enough for JobStripper, SubsistenceStripper and StudentStripper. During Golf and Spring Training selling dances is like shooting fish in a barrel: even if you look like you got run over by a truck some drunk guy will beer goggle and buy a dance or two.
Summertime is a different story. This year, the coveted “season” doesn’t seem to have started yet. Phoenix strippers refer to “season” as the holy grail of money making. I don’t think it exists anymore. Weekends in June were a lot busier than the past few Friday nights in October. The locker-room is full of bitchy “the glass is half empty” complainers.
Some of the common complaints I hear:
“It’s not like it used to be”
“When will “season” start?”
“When Warren worked here this place was packed”
“When Taylor was here, there wasn’t any contact”
“I heard it was packed at (insert name of any of the 30 strip clubs in metropolitan Phoenix)”
“My friend made really good money at (insert name of a different strip club in metropolitan Phoenix)”
What the locker room girls don’t realize is that while they are running their mouths; SuperStrippers like me are on the floor closing sales. I really don’t care if there are 500 guys on the floor or 5…I can only dance for one guy at a time! As much as I enjoyed working with Warren and Taylor, I know that it doesn’t matter who the manager is for me to make money. Despite the slow start to “season” I have broken my sales records EVERY MONTH this year.
All you have to remember is ABC. Always Be Closing. If you aren’t closing a sale, then someone else is. Sure, you may have to go the extra mile and gasp talk to the guy for more than one song, but what is your other option? (I know the answer!! Sit upstairs in the dressing room and complain!)
So, if you are a stripper and you don’t have any formal sales training, get some! It’s only $300. That is about the same as a decent night of work for a “wanna dance” girl. Just because you’ve been dancing for 2 years doesn’t mean you know how to sell. I had danced for 4 years before I took Naked Asset’s Training Course, and it made a huge difference in my take home pay.
Now you might be saying to yourself, exactly how much of a difference did this little class make? Well, here are my earnings statistics from 1999-present:
In 1999-2003 I made roughly the same amount every year as a “wanna dance” JobStripper who didn’t really know how to sell.
In 2004, I made 15.7% more than 1999-2003.
In 2005 I made 14.4% more than in 2004 (which was cululatively 32% more than 1999-2003!)
In 2006 I made 9.7% more than 2005 (which was cumulatively 45% more than 1999-2003 and for those of you that know me 2006 was the year I got REALLY fat!)
2007 has been a record breaking year for me Month after Month, and “season” is just starting!!! And yes I dropped 30 lbs ;)
More importantly, what I got most out of Naked Assets was a different vantage point on the industry. Stripping was no longer just my job, it was my business. And if I wanted my business to flourish during slow times, I needed to learn the negotiation skills to Always Be Closing. As soon as I took the personal rejection factor out of dancing, I began to flourish. Oh, you mean this guy isn’t rejecting “me” he’s rejecting my offer? YES!!!!
Do you know how good it feels to get turned down by a customer now? Awesome! You know why? Because instead of turning away and hoping the next guy doesn’t reject me, I work with him. Price rejection is all part of the sales process. Remember it’s not YOU he’s rejecting, he’s rejecting the price of VIP. Maybe he really wants to go. Maybe he needs you to take the time to be an assistant buyer for him (see blog from 10/9/2007) When I help him realize that he can afford VIP and he really does want to go with me…that feels good! It’s all about creating win-win situations for everyone.
OK, I’m REALLY excited about this…..
As of today Avalon is the exclusive Naked Assets Sales Trainer for the Phoenix Area. Naked Assets has been featured in Playboy, Maxim, ABC News, 20/20 and other publications. If you missed any of the Live Seminars held in Las Vegas over the past 5 years, you are out of luck. Company founders Adam and Jennifer discontinued the Live Seminars and can only be found on the Home Study Course.
However, if you live in Phoenix and want to brush up on your sales skills before this “season’s” ucoming events: click on the link below. You can order your Home Study Kit if you are a “do-it-yourself-er.” and study on your own.
If you are interested in attending a live Seminar here in Phoenix, send me a message. I’m in the process of putting one together (I’d like to do it before NASCAR if there is enough interest) and I just want an idea of how many local girls would actually show up. I’ll be popping into all the Phx area clubs in the next week or two to distribute fliers with my cell phone number on it, so if you have any questions or want to talk to me about it feel free to call me.
