My intuition astounds me sometimes. I’ve talked about this a lot with Diego and a few other close friends who work in the medical field. Anyway, this became the topic of today’s blog because I wished my friend Hal a happy belated/upcoming birthday yesterday. I couldn’t remember exactly what day when he told me it was, I just remembered he was a Libra. Oct 10th was also my college roommate’s birthday, so the topic was on my mind as I was sending her birthday wishes. Well, it turns out Oct 10th is Hal’s birthday too! Coincidence? Maybe. If so, I have experienced quite a few really close coincidences in my life.
When I was younger, I didn’t listen to my gut feeling. My very pragmatic mother (a Capricorn) taught me to listen to my head. Being a fiery Sagittarius, it was initially difficult to not listen to my intuition, but I learned to listen to my logic instead. Looking back, in many situations I wish I had completely disregarded logic and listened to my gut.
Now, I don’t see dead people or help police solve crimes; but I do have an incredibly strong sense of life and death. When I was growing up, before my mom married my step dad, my nuclear family was my single mom, her parents, and me. My grandmother (an Aquarius) passed away when I was 5. Mom told me “MomMom is going to be just fine, she’ll be home in a few days,” but I knew in my gut she wasn’t coming home. So as the paramedics wheeled her out, 5 year old Avalon grabbed her hand and said “I love you MomMom, see you in heaven.” In 7th grade my grandfather (a Cancer) passed away. I had such a strong gut feeling that day in school, that I went straight home to say goodbye. I was too late and found his body. Being 12 years old… I didn’t know what to do, so I called my mom at work to tell her. She of course, freaked out because her 12 year old was alone in the house with her grandfather’s corpse. I was surprisingly calm throughout the situation. Last February, my stepfather (a Libra) passed away. I knew the end was near when he was taken to the hospital. He held on for 2 weeks, Mom stayed upbeat and positive and refused to cancel the plans for their 15th Wedding Anniversary in April. When the phone rang that Friday morning, I knew exactly what she was going to tell me.
OK, enough of the creepy Halloween stuff. My intuition also gives me an immediate sense of good vs. evil. I know as soon as I meet someone if we are going to hit it off and become good friends or if that person is going to screw me over. I knew on our first date that I was going to marry my husband (an Aquarius). Unfortunately, I didn’t listen to my gut feeling about Jon, my first post-college adult relationship (a Pisces.) I knew in my gut that he was going to screw me over, but my logic told me that my gut was crazy. When I met my childhood best friend (also a Sag,) I knew instantly we’d be BFFs. Ditto when I met my college roommate (a Libra.)
In the strip club environment, my intuition helps me a lot. I can tell within one song if the client is good or evil. I do mean evil. I’ve gotten the creeps from guys before and then saw their mug shot on the news. I can also tell if that person is wasting my time or going to rip me off. I can’t explain it, but I just get a gut feeling that tells me, “Time to ask for payment, this guy might be a flight risk.” This is another reason why I don’t drink at work. When I drink, my mental acuity declines and I don’t get as good a sense of client’s intentions, and I get ripped off. The last time this happened was NASCAR weekend April 2006. I was in VIP doing a half hour for a hundred deal. I got called to stage about 20 minutes into it. My gut said to ask for payment before I walked away from him, but I was tipsy and thought, “Oh he seems sooo nice!” While I was onstage I watched him walk right down the spiral staircase and out the door! Never again!
Diego and I have this uncanny connection. We tested it for over a year. Diego stops in every 2 or 3 months to say hi. Oddly enough, Diego would always pop into my head on certain nights as I was driving in to work. Lo and behold, those random nights he “popped” into my head, he was always at the club. It’s the same thing with Steve from Ventura, CA. He comes into town twice a year: Cubs spring training and ASU football. Let’s see if Steve comes to town this weekend…I haven’t thought about him for months.
Oddly enough, my intuition is sharpest with my most compatible astrological signs: Libra, Aquarius, and Sagittarius. So sharp, I can usually tell when a person is another Sag. Last year during the Fiesta Bowl, I met a guy who was exactly like me! To a tee! I mean we looked alike, we both did Bikram Yoga, we both had the same travel itch, fascination with the paranormal, and restless need for change. He was on his way to Africa to film a documentary on lions in the savannah. I asked if he was a Sag.
“Yeah, December 20th he said.
“OMG! Me too, what year were you born?” I asked
“1975.”
“OMG, Me too! This is going to sound crazy, but what time?” My analytical mind was racing.
“4:15 in the morning.” He responded.
“Whoa! In Denver?” I asked because I knew Denver’s time zone was two hours behind the East Coast.
“Yeah, why?” The poor guy was completely bewildered.
“I was born at 6:15 am in Pennsylvania. So that means you and I were born at exactly the same time, on the same day, in the same year.” I said. “In astrology, we are astrological twins.”
Now, I’m still pretty logical about the application of the ancient religion of astrology. I don’t exactly make life decisions based on what my horoscope says that day…but the parallelism is fascinating.
Well, now that the cat’s out of the bag that I’m completely nuts. I’d like to point out that major universities and private labs are applying the scientific method and researching just how much is just coincidence.
